About this genre
Born in United States, 1970s · Soul, Funk & R&B
Rooted in Black American musical tradition, it fuses raw funk grooves with psychedelic textures, dense horn arrangements, and satirical cosmic mythology, creating a sprawling, communal sound built around deep bass lines, call-and-response vocals, and an anything-goes spirit of collective improvisation.
