About this genre
Born in United Kingdom, 1980s · Pop
Rooted in post-punk Britain, it replaced guitar-driven rock with synthesizers, drum machines, and sleek electronic textures, channeling a cool, futuristic detachment. Its polished melodies and mechanized rhythms made it one of the defining commercial sounds of the 1980s.
