About this genre
Born in United Kingdom, 1970s · Punk & Hardcore
A British fusion of Jamaican ska rhythms with punk's raw energy and speed, born in the late 1970s amid racial tensions and economic hardship. Bands were often racially integrated, and the music carried explicit anti-racist messaging alongside danceable offbeat guitar and brass.
